An interview with the developer of the new indie game I’m worried about this project. This time, we will deliver a mini-in-tavy to the Logele Dungeon RPG “ Shattered Pixel Dungeon ” released on March 24 for PC / Mac / Linux / Android.

This work is a rogue-like dungeon RPG featuring a simple system. It is also characterized by that volume, including random map generation, 4 heroes, eight subclasses, 60 or more enemies, more than 30 types of equipment, more than 100 types of equipment, and more than 150 items. It is also true for Japanese (some latest update parts are not supported).

“Shattered Pixel Dungeon” is delivered for 1,010 yen.

– First of all, please introduce yourself. What is your favorite game?

Evan Debenham (hereinafter EVAN) Hello! Canadian Indie Games Developer, Evan Debenham. Development of this work was carried out for eight years, and at the beginning, although it was my side project, he gradually changed to a full-time job. It is difficult to choose one favorite game, but “Undertale” is definitely a single candidate.

-Why did you start developing this work?

EVAN Development of this work has begun when developers of “Pixel Dungeon”, an original version, is about 8 years ago. I loved “pixel dungeon”, but I felt frustrated in part of the system of this work. Therefore, I thought that it would be better to play this work as your first game development project.

This work started from a very simple place, but continued to receive a very positive response from the “Pixel Dungeon” community, and the scale of this work was gradually increased. And now, this work has grown to a scale that can be said to be a single game!

– Please tell me the characteristics of this work.

EVAN Made’s best characteristics are no longer the history that is based on “Pixel Dungeon”. This work is equipped with a sufficient amount of characteristic factors that can be called another game, but there are many elements that are apparently similar to “Pixel Dungeon”.

– What kind of person do this work do you want to play?

People who can enjoy EVAN main work are those who like difficult games. In particular, this work has loved the old-fashioned Rogue, but I hate complicated systems, and it was made for those who want to challenge more difficult ones.

This work is unlike other “Log Light” games, and there is no power-up that lasts a dungeon to continue. It is not a thing that you can clear any upgrade, but it depends purely to the player’s skills.

– Is there a work affected by this work?

EVAN This work is based on the source code of “Pixel Dungeon”, so it will be clear that it is affected. Other than “Pixel Dungeon”, we have also inspired from other games in the same genre. Especially, it was considered to be considered to be considered as “Brogue” old Log Like game, and this work was pursuing simpleness anyway.

– Did you have an impact on development by new coronavirus?

EVAN New Corona affected my private life, but there was not so much impact on work. I was working from home before, so it has changed in the new Corona, and it is about to have a longer game game. This makes the new Corona for business, only a positive impact on me. For many other people, new corona was very difficult, so I think I am very lucky.
